The story
Freedom walks with its head held high.
From San Basilio de Palenque — the first free town of the Americas — they came down: the palenqueras. With their colorful dresses and bowls carried on their heads, they turned walking into an act of pride.
Ritmo portrays that cadence: the skirt spinning before the sea, the burning Caribbean sunset and a joy that asks no one for permission. In Cartagena they are a postcard, yes — but first they are living history.
Each pair is printed and assembled by hand on canvas, with thick, living oil strokes. Wearing it means walking with that same step: with rhythm, head held high.
What it stands for
The palenqueras: a heritage of freedom from San Basilio de Palenque.
